WPL 2023 opener between Gujarat Giants and Mumbai Indians rescheduled, will start at 8 PM IST

The first match of the Women's Premier League, which was scheduled to take place at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on Saturday, March 4, has been rescheduled with a delayed start. The match between Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Giants will now begin at 8:00 pm IST, 30 minutes later than the original start time.



The opening ceremony of the tournament will begin at 6:25 pm IST and is set to be a spectacular event, with Bollywood stars Kiara Advani and Kriti Sanon performing, and singer and songwriter AP Dhillon entertaining the crowd with some of his chartbusters. The reason for the delayed start is currently unknown. The toss for the first-ever Women's Premier League match will take place at 7:30 pm IST.

The gates for the event will open at 4:00 pm IST, allowing fans to witness the grand opening ceremony before the match commences.

Harmanpreet Kaur will captain Mumbai Indians in their historic Women's Premier League clash, while Beth Mooney, the Australia opener, will lead the Gujarat Giants. The inaugural edition of the Women's Premier League will feature five teams competing for the top prize over 22 matches across two venues in Mumbai from March 4 to 28.

 Smriti Mandhana will lead the Royal Challengers Bangalore and is the only other Indian captain in the tournament. Other notable captains include Meg Lanning leading the Delhi Capitals and Alyssa Healy leading UP Warriorz. On the second day of the tournament, RCB will face off against Delhi Capitals at the Brabourne Stadium on Sunday, March 5.
