SA20 Auction 2024 Players, Increased Purse, Rule and Regulations

Cricket South Africa (CSA) has announced new regulations for SA20 2024 to make the tournament even more exciting. Franchises will now have a bigger purse with an increase of R 5.1 million, bringing it to R 39.1 million for the auction.

In addition, each franchise must sign a South African player aged 22 or younger who has not played in SA20 before.

The trading window for South African players opened on 1 June, giving franchises the chance to make tactical trades and retain players before the auction. The squad sizes will increase to 19, including the rookie player and the wildcard player.

To encourage local talent, franchisees are required to have a minimum of 11 South African players in their squads. However, they can field a maximum of four overseas players in the match-day playing XI.

SA20 league commissioner, Graeme Smith, expressed the aim to build on the success of the first season and provide exposure to young talent on a global platform. The addition of a rookie player aims to showcase the skills of up-and-coming cricketers.

The second season will take place in January, and further details about the auction and fixtures will be released soon.

SA20 2024 Traded Players

Simon Harmer and Jon-Jon Smuts became the first players to be traded for the Betway SA20 League 2024.

Smuts moved from Sunrisers Eastern Cape to Durban’s Super Giants, while Harmer switched from Kingsmead to St George’s Park.

The trading window allows teams to make trades or retain players before the 31 July deadline.
