The highly anticipated SA20 2024, the second season of the South African T20 cricket league, is scheduled to start in January 2024. Six teams, representing different cities, will compete for the championship title. The opening match will feature MI Cape Town against Paarl Royals.
In this tournament, each team will play against the other five teams twice, following a double round-robin home and away format.
Notable overseas players like Jos Buttler, Sam Curran, Rashid Khan, Jimmy Neesham, and Alzarri Joseph will be showcasing their skills in the competition.
Pretoria Capitals, Joburg Super Kings, Sunrisers Eastern Cape, and Paarl Royals were the semi-finalists in SA20 2023. The semi-finals took place on February 8 and 9, 2023.
Sunrisers Eastern Cape delivered an outstanding bowling performance, bowling out the Capitals for just 135 runs.
Roelof van Merwe, the 38-year-old left-arm spinner, played a crucial role with his exceptional spell, taking 4/31. Sisanda Magala (2/30) and Ottniel Baartman (2/22) provided valuable support.
In the final, Adam Rossington’s counter-attacking 57 off 30 balls led Sunrisers Eastern Cape to victory. They chased down the target confidently, and Marco Jansen’s six-over long-off sealed the win and ignited celebrations throughout Johannesburg and Gqeberha.
