IPL 2024 Auction and Its Format

The IPL auction for the 2024 season is yet to be scheduled, but based on past seasons, it can be expected to take place towards the end of 2023.

The exact date and venue will be announced by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) closer to the time.

During the auction, each IPL franchise is allocated a budget of Rs 90 crore to assemble their squad. This budget is used to acquire players from around the world, including both capped and uncapped Indian players, as well as international players.

While teams are not obligated to spend the entire budget, a minimum of 75% (Rs 60 crore) must be allocated to the players. It is common for the top five players to command a significant portion (30-40%)
of a franchise’s spending.

There is no fixed number of players that are advertised at the IPL auction, as it depends on player registrations and approvals from respective cricket boards.

Players can be from various categories, including capped, uncapped, or representing associate cricket nations. The important factor is that IPL teams are allowed a maximum of eight foreign players in
their squad, with only four of them permitted to play in the playing XI.

As the IPL auction approaches, fans eagerly await the announcements of player registrations, auction dates, and the subsequent team compositions.

It is a thrilling period as franchises strategize and make bids to secure the best talent for their respective teams, adding to the excitement and anticipation leading up to the IPL 2024 season.
